Very Rev Fr Marko Rumuma, who is charged with running the Diocesan Cathedral where the Door of Mercy is situated during this Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, shared the latest on how the Holy Year has been progressing.

1) An amazing number of parishes have registered  for the visit to the holy Door among other events. This indicates to a great extent how much the Year “has answered to the needs of the people of God.” According to current data, all the twelve town parishes of the diocese in the western deanery have paid a visit to the Door of Mercy, a head count has shown that over two thousand people have participated in Jubilee events in the western zone.

The Door of Mercy located in Binga as well as Jotsholo recorded impressive results.

2) Other concrete signs of witness to God's mercy in the diocese have been the paying of visit to the prisoners. This symbolised opening the  “Door of Charity”  to those in cells  and celebrating Holy Mass with them; and visits to those at the Old Age home in St Charles Lwanga and St Francis Dete .
3) The baptism and acceptance to the sacraments of the children born of irregular marriages; and living in pastorally complicated situation.
4) Over 30 priests of the diocese together with their bishop have participated in a 5km pilgrimage walk from the Bishop’s House to the Cathedral. The walk culminated with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. A missionary of Mercy chosen by the pope hailing from the archdiocese of Bulawayo was invited to the diocese to accompany the priests in a recollection as well as exercise the mandate from the Holy See which gave them the authority to “pardon even those sins reserved to the Holy See”
5) Bishop Albert Serrano celebrated his golden Jubille during the year of mercy at St Mary’s Mission on the 2nd July 2016. In his homily during the Mass which was characterised by simplicity, the Bishop dedicated occasion to the celebration of priesthood in the diocese and church at large.
